X Japan Frontman Yoshiki Lends Support After Japanese Earthquake
TOKYO, Japan (CelebrityAccess) — After a recent series of major earthquakes devastated southern Japan, X Japan frontman Yoshiki was ready to help.
Through his charitable YOSHIKI Foundation, he donated JPY10,000,000 (approximately $90,499 USD) to charity relief, notably, the Japanese Red Cross.
The earthquakes, which struck on April 14th in Kumamoto prefecture, on the southernmost of Japan’s main islands, were the largest seismic events in Japan since the 2011 disaster that killed more than 15,000 people in North Japan.
The initial 6.5 magnitude earthquake was followed some 28 hours later by another registering a magnitude of 7.3, leaving a number of buildings collapsed, four dead and hundreds injured.
Though a Japanese citizen, Yoshiki has been residing in the US in recent years, but was visiting his native land when news of the quake struck. Yoshiki and his organization have been active in supporting relief efforts of previous quakes, including the 2011 Tohuko quake.
“It is touching to see the people keep their cool and integrity in such a devastating situation,” he said of his countrymen. “Such mannerism is admired on a global level and I'd love to spread that spirit of the Japanese people to the world.” – Staff Writers
